Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever seen a ghost?
Submitted by Nancy.
Yes. Haven't seen one personally, but know people who believe they have. I'm not saying they haven't seen what they claim to, I'm simply pointing out that I have no way of knowing if the ghost was actually present [because I was not].
A friend of mine saw my father right after he died. She's afraid of ghosts, but wasn't at all scared when he appeared. [Well, why should she be? My Dad was very good to her and she suffers from losing him, too.] I didn't know then nor do I know now how to respond when she brings it up. It makes me wonder: how come she got to see him and I didn't? Is she "open" to such sightings? I left myself open to it long ago. And of course, after Dad passed, I hoped that I'd see him... I still hope I'll stumble upon The Happy Death Cross, but that's another story.
I've taken photographs that have possibly ghostly content, but don't consider that actually seeing a ghost.
There was also that fork incident when I was young: a fork that was definitely not ours fell - seemingly out of nowhere - from above our kitchen table down to the floor.
Addendum (11/11/2006): The Haunted House [Caps and italics used because that's my official name for it and the series of photographs I've taken over the years. Photo projects are fun!]
Many years ago, I went inside the house with a friend to explore it - despite the fact that it was condemned and literally falling apart.
Naturally I was taking many photos of the inside. While in one of the rooms, I found a newspaper from 1973 on the floor. I decided to take a picture of it.
The camera refused to fire. Sometimes that happens with my 35mm under certain conditions (zoomed in too far, not enough light - things of that nature).
I stepped back and tried again. No dice. I adjusted the zoom. The camera still wouldn't work. I aimed the camera elsewhere in the room. It didn't take. I made many more attempts to photograph anything in the room - changing the camera's various settings to see if any of them would make a difference.
The camera continued to refuse.
Initially, I thought, "Damn, my camera is broken!"
But there was nothing wrong with it. When I left the room, it worked just fine.
Ghostly? I can't be sure.
If the house wasn't such a safety hazard, I would've tried going inside at a later date to further investigate this "no photographs of this part of the house!" business.
